Component upgrade prioritization

Hi everyone,

 

I'm looking to upgrade my PC to handle more of the recent games, I.e., Apex Legends, COD Warzone, etc. 

 

Current specs:

 

i5-6600k

Gigabyte z170-xpsli

24gb ram gskill ddr4

XFX R9 380 

Samsung 850evo SSD

750W EVGA power supply

 

I'm not sure what's the most beneficial part to upgrade, especially not sure if it's really worth it to upgrade the CPU given the limited upgrade with my motherboard. 

 

I'm open to anything but good price to performance is important to me, if it's a lot of money for small gain then it's not worth it.

i would switch to 3rd gen ryzen, as amd cpus provide best price to performance. im running a r5 3600x with an asus x470 prime pro. my gpu is a gigabyte vega 56. i would recommend getting the none x version of the 3600. this should provide an easy 50-100 fps jump in battle royales probably.

I'd see if you can find a reasonably priced i7 7700k in your local used market, although unlikely.

What is your exact RAM config? 24GB is unusual for DDR4. Also, what is the exact model of your EVGA PSU?

 

Otherwise I recommend upgrading in this order, GPU  CPU + Motherboard (Ryzen)

It's 2x4GB and 2x8GB, I had the 2x4GB initially when i built the PC and added the 16GB after I started running out of RAM with normal use. 

 

PSU is EVGA Supernova 750W G2 80 Plus Gold

 

Any specific GPU recommendations?

You're going to see the largest performance increase from a GPU upgrade, while 4c/4t can be a bottleneck unless you're encountering stuttering and hitching already and cpu cores are maxing out at 100%. Then you can generally benefit from a more powerful gpu.

 

Intel also has no upgrade path for you anyways, a Ryzen 3000 and a B450/X570 board would be the most cost effective upgrade path as far as cpu goes. Although even a $85 Ryzen 5 1600AF could be argued as being an upgrade to a 6600k depending on your games/workloads.

Ahh I see, that's fine. If you move to Ryzen in the future that may cause issue but not a concern right now. 

 

G2 is a solid PSU so that can stay around for your upgrades for sure. 

 

What is your upgrade budget for a GPU?

Budget is about $300-$400, again whatever gives the best value for the amount. If something's really great for a bit more than I'm all for it.

 

Some additional information, I game at 1080p on a 144hz monitor but I also have a secondary monitor at 1680x1050 that does 60hz. Current I run both of off DVI I believe.

 

My case is a Fractal Design Define R5 which says it has 310mm for length and 180mm for height of the GPU.

The best card for the budget is the RX 5700.
