Fastest GPU for i5 6400

adamr539

What's the fastest GPU for i5 6400? 144hz / 1080p

Right now I use on the other machine GTX 1060, I play Division 2, Battlefield 4,V and Witcher 3.

PSU is Cooler Master V550.

Asus PRIME Z390-A | Intel Core i7 9700K | Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR4 2400 | MSI GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER VENTUS XS OC | 256 M.2 SSD | 2TB SSHD WD

idk if the 6400 can pull off a consistent 144Hz in any of those games, regardless of the GPU.

The GTX 1060 you have already is a fairly decent pairing tbh.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I know it's not capable of 144hz, just wanted to let you know what res I am playing on

GTX 1060 is the highest I would go with a system like that to be honest, you might see an improvement in some games if you upgrade but I doubt that includes the games you mentioned and it would be marginal either way, if you're willing to upgrade regardless you can do that and then you can upgrade the CPU later on but I suggest you wait for the RTX 3000 series.

if you're not getting the performance you want in those titles from the hardware you have right now, i'm affraid you're looking at a new computer all togheter because the CPU and GPU are on the same performance tier...so if you upgrade one and not the other you won't get the performance increase you are looking for, for your money.

so...R5 3600 and RX 5700 XT or 2070 Super, or stay where you're at and save money for a new computer/major upgrades.
