Stuck at 1Gbps

Go to solution Solved by Windows7ge,

To my knowledge unless the NAS supports SMB3.0 Multi-channel you're never going to see >1Gbit for any file transfer as it is just balancing your session across the two interfaces. I believe bonding is ~ the same as Link Aggregation. This will never do what you want it to.

Hi All,

Hoping I can get a bit of help here.

I've got a Synology DS1515+, linked to my home network via a Netgear GS116V2. I've got all four gigabit connections going to the switch, and I also have two gigabit connections coming from my PC, which I have tried in a bridged and unbridged connection. I have also created a 'bond' in the Synology software for all four ports. I am still stuck at 100MBps, when my PC is showing a 2Gbps connection and the NAS is showing a 4Gbps connection. The switch is an unmanaged one, so I'm wondering if the connection is going via my broadband router (a Sky Q one, in the UK), which is only allowing a single connection to the switch without having a meltdown. There is very little options with Sky equipment to help here from what I can see. All my cables are Cat5e or Cat6.

I was hoping to see at least 200MBps, which would give me reason to perhaps add a further two ports on my PC to max out the connection speed of the NAS. Not sure where I'm going wrong, despite researching - don't know if I need a managed switch or what.

I have a little knowledge of networking, but I'm nowhere near an expert, and am cautious of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing with me!!

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be very grateful for this. Thank you all very much!

Link Aggregation is NOT going to give you over 1Gbps. It's for load balancing multiple source/destination connections and a single source/destination will always hash over a single link. Unless you can do SMBv3 load balancing on both sides you'll never get over 1Gbps across multiple links unfortunately.
