Hi everyone,

I'm on my last legs with what is wrong with my pc.

I have an intel core i5 7600, 16gb ram and a Nvidia 1070 graphics card.

I used to able to record/stream games quite well but now even when my computer is not doing much my cpu can get up to 100% usage...

This makes it difficult for me to stream which I know is intense on the cpu but as I said was initially fine. I am avoiding overclocking because that is not what I am comfortable with as I am not that skilled, I have only built this pc which I have had for a few years now.

Friends seem to think my processor is just old and is bottlenecking, others think my gpu might be faulty making my cpu work harder than normal. Thermals could be better but they never run too hot.

Im just stumped with what I can do without having to take it all apart, I'm looking at upgrading my processor to an item core i7 9700 or 9700K (whatever I can afford) if needed.

I would love some advice if that is possible?

Thanks,

Connor

Your cpu just isn't strong enough to efficiently process that workload

If you wanted to upgrade, look at ryzen and grab something like a 2700 or 3600

What is using the CPU so much anyways?

You would need a new motherboard for that. 7700(K) is the best you can do on your current motherboard.

If you're getting a new motherboard, you might also want to look at Ryzen, since them having more cores is a lot more preferable for streaming.

Or look into encoding on your videocard, might work well too.

Speaking of encoding.. Is it possible your streaming program's settings have simply just changed?

The 7600 isn't enough anymore. 4 cores, 4 threads are essentially on the lowest-end for performance. Even 1st generation Ryzen CPUs handily slap around the chips they first compete with. You need more CPU horsepower to do anything else.

If it comes down to upgrading your CPU, unless you can get the 7700K for dirt cheap (AMD has devalued all Intel processors on a massive scale), I'd just go AMD as a whole. Heck, I used Intel for the longest time because AMD could not compete. Now they can, and are handily smacking Intel their collective butts.

Only issue is I don't want to switch to an AMD build... is there any suggestion on an intel processor I can upgrade to?

my software settings did change but I reverted them back but even then it still doesn't perform well, even using a dynamic bitrate

If you're not changing the motherboard, than it's the best you're going to get. If it's not to pricey. 7700K is a great CPU though in my opinion. I stream as well and do so at 1080p60fps no issues or frame drops.

If you can wait and get new Mobo and new intel CPUs I say do that. However new intel may become "supply & demand" prices.

Your talking about a 1060 not 1070 right?

No, I don't think Intel makes sense for this purpose, except for the 9900K, or maybe 8700(K), which are both just very expensive, where AMD makes more sense for your use.

But you can do your own research whether Intel makes sense for you.

You could try the NVENC encoder, which runs on your videocard.

Yes, NVENC(new) is what I use and is best. Instead of going through 3 different pieces of hardware.
