You can go with a combo of new and used parts and get better performance.

i'd suggest looking around on ebay or criagslist for at least a few of the parts, $500 doesn't get you much when you also need a monitor.

A refurbished Dell Optiplex with a decent Intel i5 or i7 CPU with an SSD and windows 10 installed go for cheap, then all you may have to do is install a new GPU if the PSU will handle it, if not, a new PSU as well and an exhaust fan.

Have to admit to you, it will be difficult to build a brand new computer worth its salt for gaming with only $500. At a minimum, you'll need at least $600, so if I were you, I'd post pone trying to build a PC and save up more money.

Hey @AydenF1 I'm currently building a pc for about $400. It's used though. Based on an optiplex 9020. However, it'll be able to run most, if not all new games on high settings. If you're interested, here's a link to my build:
