What is the PSU?  You’ve got enough CPU to drive a lot more video card, but more video card takes more power which means the PSU becomes important.

 

 

You’ve got a decent CPU and too much cooling which should allow that 1600 to get near 2600 territory on an overclock.  The memory is the weak link there.  If GPU is off the table getting memory in the 3200 range would be a good idea.  What’s holding back the AAA titles you mentioned though is gpu.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Not necessarily.  You only use as much memory as you use.  More is not better though not enough can be a gigantic problem.  I see more problem with memory speed than memory amount.

 

He does have an issue if he’s running 3x8gb though.  I don’t think 6gb sticks are made.  The third 8gb stick isn’t useful for gaming anyway.  Pulling it may make the machine go faster.

you don't have to be on high or ultra in every game.often those look a little better with a big performance hit.

if you don't need the upgrade wait a few months there will be much better cards later in the year.

I have a comparable 2600 and RX580. Destiny 2 Ultra isnt even stretching its legs. Witcher is close enough to 60 if it's not over... that game is poorly optimized. 

 

Are you gaming at 4k or something? A 1060 6GB is still solid enough for 1080p gaming. 

 

My advice? Save up. With the RTX 3000 series on the horizon, it may be that in the near future a used 2070 Super wont cost a whole lot.

You’re fine for a bigger gpu then.  The question then becomes do you want to buy now or wait?  If you can wait for Navi/ampere which was towards the end of the year but is now kind of unknown.  When that happens a lot of people are going to upgrade and the kind of cards you are a good candidate for with that large PSU will come on to the market at low prices.  You can handle a 1080 class card with that PSU/CPU
