Looking at new graphics card

Hi

So I want to upgrade my AMD HD6870 to something better, but I don't really have the money for a new one at time being.

So I have been looking on used graphics cards lately, and have found some interesting stuff in my country. I have found a used Gigabyte GTX 590 for around 275usd and a used Asus GTX 580 Directcu II for around 180usd. I think this is a pretty good deal but wanted to hear you guys toughs first, before spending my hard earned money. Should I buy the 590 or the 590? I really want to get the 590, but I have heard some bad things about temperatures and reliability of these cards, so I don't really know if I should buy it or wait for the money to a new graphics card.

Thanks

If I was to choose between them 2 cards. I would go for the 580. Dual GPU cards always come with issues and power/temps are are big issues lol. If you could find something in the 600 series 650 or higher around that price. That would work well

Corsair 400R, i7 3770K @ 4.5GHz 16GB, Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz, Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H Motherboard, 240GB Samsung 840 Evo Sata III SSD, 2 x Asus GTX 780 Direct CU2 SLI, Corsair H100i and Corsair AX860i Platinum Power supply.

Year, and I don't really like the stock cooler on it, as the tempratures can get as high as 90C, and the extremly high power consumption it has. All that power... :S

The GTX 590 is almost double the performance of the GTX 580.

I read that the 590 would have the same performance as two 570's in sli = A lot better than my 6870...

Edit: There is also a 7970 for 275usd, but it has a stock cooler :(

What about an AMD 270x.

It's a massive improvement over your current card, and avoids the issues associated with a GTX 590.

I would rather spend some extra and get something like a 280x or a 770, but the 580 is faster than the 270x and is cheaper.

A 280x is way faster than the 580, and almost at the same speed as a 590.

You also get Mantle, which may or may no be of benefit to you.

How much are they were you are?A

Also not sure why you think the 580 is faster than a 270x?

Look through the benchmarks.

As of what I can see, the 280x isn't that much faster than the 580, but has of course lower power consumption and mantle.

A 280x costs around 385 usd.

Hmmm, maybe you're not seeing what I'm seeing.

GTX 580 : 58.8 fps

270X : 63.4 fps

280X : 83.6 fps

Both 83.6 and 63.4 are greater than 58.8.

The 280x absolutely destroys the 580.

lol, year... Was looking at an other benchmark.

Probably better to save up for an 280x then.
