New to the build scence and in the middle of my first build :-

I have the following components:

  • EK-VARDAR-X3M
  • Ek-UNI Pump Bracket (120mm Fan) Vertical
  • Ek- Quantum Kinetc TBE 200 D5 PWM
  • Alphacool XT34 360mm rads

My dilemma is I do not want to mount my res flush to the fan. One reason is for cosmetics (I would like it to be further out in the case then flush to the rad/fan).

The other reason is because the fans (Ek-Vardar) don't have a flush point to place the mount onto due these (https://www.performance-pcs.com/diy/quiet-pc/fan-silencers/ek-vardar-x3m-damper-pack-blue-ek-vardar-x3m-damper-bl.html) Note the mounting hole to attach the fan to the rad is not the highest points but the lowest (6mm above the rad) and this is also where the bracket screw goes through; top and bottom of the fans are not parallel, a mistake on my part ordering these (even though they look nice).

My question to you good folks is what options are there to fix this? The restriction here is that the alphacool radiators use M3 screws and have a max screw depth of 9mm. I looked at using M3 Hex Spacers that have the male and female end but the male end is only 8mm (just barely be able to screw it into the fan+rad). Plus I would like to offset my rad about 50-60mm out. I don't even know if M3 Hex spacers can take the weight of the rad/pump.

Thanks in advanced

Welcome to the Forums!

If you just require a small amount using plastic spacers or lots of washers between the fans to get it further away. They do make fan spacers such as these and if you have access to a 3D printer it is easy enough to make one with readily available models.

There are also universal mounting brackets for fans that do bump out away from the fan which you may be able to adapt for your application.

M3 standoffs can handle a lot if weight

I have a 240 60mm rad with a res mounted on it and use only 4 of them.

the roll of tape is not supporting the rad but prevents the whole case from flipping over.

I'd either turn the tape roll on it's side and shim as needed or get a solid object to support things - The roll as you have it now can slowly "Crush" down, caving in the roll and that will let the case start to tip as time passes.
You could also counterweight the case to the other side, if done properly that would keep it from flipping over period.

It stays stable without the Tape roll, but it can be easily flipped over with a very little force, thus the roll is there just to be sure that it does not fall.
