x570 Elite heatsink

Hi

I am building my first PC now and I installed my 970 EVO M2 SSD. When I want to reattach the heatsink from my x570 Elite, the heatsink does not touch my m2 SSD. My m2 SSD ist 80mm long and the heatsink is 110mm long. So the heatsink is on the 80mm screw of my m2 SSD.

 

Should I not install the heatsink and left it out?

Or should I install the heatsink with a huge gap between my m2 SSD and my heatsink.

 

I just dont get it ...

It's because you installed the SSD's wrong.

It's board > standoff > SSD > screw.

You have it board > SSD > standoff > screw

 

Take off the screw, take off the standoff, take out the SSD, install the standoff, then SSD, then screw.

Yeah that doens't look good. the 970 is supposed to rest on the standoff, and then you add the screw to keep it in place. it should be level.

p.s. its not ideal, but you could do without the screw on the standoff and 'wedge' it between the heatsink.

The thermal pad will do a fairly good job of keeping the m.2 drive from moving around. don't forget to remove the blue plastic.

 

If you can tho, try to avoid this.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

 

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Hey minibois and Ceannanu, thanks for your help it really was a installation mistake :OOO. Now I could installed the heatsink in the right way! Man thanks for the fast reply. I appreciate it! 

 

Did i damaged the drives?
