I live in a place that is surrounded by xfinity wifi but it would cost me 3k to xfinity so I am going to get two antennaes and use them to send wifi from my neighbors 1/8 mile away to my house and was wondering if we all stream and I play games, what speed to get so my ping won't increase while 3 people are streaming 1080p videos at once and what antennaes to get. I was thinking of getting Powerbeam Ac620 antennaes and was wondering if that's a good antennae and what I will need to set it up. I currently have 1mbps wifi btw and its $100 a month so we are getting scammed, no cell phone reception here either.

If I was good friends with this neighbor, I'd go for trenching in a fiber line. Way better latency and potentially much faster. Cable is cheap.

Id pay the 3K. Because if Xfinity finds out the neighbor is sharing service they can get their service shut off. But from my understanding Ubiquti Air Fiber might be the way to go here. Or as @Blue4130 suggested running Fiber. BUT you will want to call the Utility Locations service to make sure you dont hit a gas line or and other type of utilities.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Thye already have the fast wifi so I wouldn't think they would pay 3k for us to get wifi. It is like $30 to get wifi from road to house but down the road 1/8 mile is where they want 3k, which I think is a bit much condsidering they said they only need to take it two poles down, but I heard the cable is expensive, so wouldn't I be paying the same amount trenching? and why do I need to trench if they can just run it from pole to pole.

Ive seen quotes as high as $50K, so 3K is a fucking steal. You are resposible for paying for each foot of cable they have to run and for the guy who has to install it. You can try contacting the franchise auhtority in your area to see what the terms of the agreement is, as in they might be required to install the service for free, or at least for a standard install fee. But besides that, Comcast will charge you for each foot of wire, for any equpiment they have to add on the poles. You got lucky that they dont have to add a node or amp, because thats when it gets costly.

Also, consider the fact of any expenses they might incure. Who owns the utility poles they will be installing to? They might have to pay rent, get permission to install and ect. Google went thru hell trying to install Google Fiber in Nashville for this very reason. Also Comcast has to pull permits so the government is invovled which always complicates things.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

2.4GHz is slower but more reliable.

No its not. Every body and their mom uses 2.4 Ghz. Wireless headphones, baby monitors, bluetooth and even Microwaves produce a 2.4 Ghz signal. In very dense populated areas 2.4 Ghz is the most unusable out of all the WiFi bands.

able for that lenght isn't even near $3k

But thats what Comcast wants to charge and its their network, their employees who have to install it. It all comes down to ROI, the faster they can make money off the OP's ass the better. Thats how it works here in Merica.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

How much is 1/8 of a mile in metres? 200?

What speed are you dealing with? I've searched for those antennae and they're 5GHz which can get you into packet loss or high latency, 2.4GHz is slower but more reliable.

Or you can go for trenching but you'd need to dig, run shielded wiring and cover everything again (tubing and cable for that lenght isn't even near $3k) or if you're not crossing any roads run some small poles with tensioners and supports but idk how much that would cost

What do I need to run the cable through trenching? 1/8 mile is 200 meters btw and I am not sure what you mean by what speeds are you dealing with.

Strong back and a trenching shovel ?

Jokes aside, flexible pvc conduit (about $100 per hundred foot roll) and fiber cable (from $1 to $3 per foot should get you what you need. Then various conduit and cable ends (say $20 to $50). The biggest expense I see it a fiber switch at each end. Go ebay for that.

What kind of fiber cable, I have seen there is all different types and am not sure which to buy and fiber switches on ebay seem to be $45 which is not expensive so I assume I am looking at the wrong ones, could you send a link to one possibly?
