Most likely not. The Z390 is meant for 8th and 9th gen Intel. That is a question to ask Asus Support or find in their documentation.

I build computers and networks. Fibre Optic is my only dream imaginable.

CAN I USE 1 I5 6400 IN THE Motherboard ATX Asus ROG Strix Z390-E Gaming

No, 6th and 7th gen Intel CPU's require 100 and 200 series motherboards.

300 series motherboards (like the Z390) only work with 8th and 9th gen CPU's.

Do you have either of these products already?

Maybe you should have thought of that before buying a motherboard...? Buying parts one at a time is one of the worst ways to build a computer. You end up with outdated hardware and having paid more than you needed to.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

make sure you quote people so we can see your responses

I highly suggest you return that motherboard and get yourself a Ryzen motherboard and CPU, not only are the good boards cheaper but you get a legitimate upgrade path.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B
