Issues with windows sharing over network

Go to solution Solved by Windows7ge,

Assuming it has a Static IP I wouldn't rely on the Windows Network Search function. It's really garbage.

Assuming network discovery is enabled on both machines and you can ping in both directions go to the File Explorer address bar and type: //<ip-of-server>

Ex: //192.168.0.254

It should either immediately connect you or prompt you for login.

I had this working before on a previous system but on the new nas is not apearing on the network. Any fixes?

Didn't tell Windows you were on a private network?

We need more info, what's not showing? If you have a new PC you'll need to enable Network Discovery.

What do you mean by that?
I allowed sharing without password on all networks, public and private and turned off the firewall. Very strange

It’s already been enabled on both PCs.

Why do you need it to appear? You can map the shares you need in Windows Explorer without seeing it in network discovery.

Also make sure your NAS is configured properly.

I thought you needed it to appear to map the network drive. I’ll try mapping it. What do you mean configure correctly?

On a new NAS you typically need to create users and shares before anything is available to use...

This. Also, many NAS systems have settings for network discovery in their networking section in the management tool.
