Hi so im a newbie to am4 build and this will be my 1st time to build one from given parts...

So i have...

A12 9800

8gb ddr4 2666mhz

Asus PRIME A320M-K motherboard

Gtx 960 128 bit 2gb

500watts true rated 80+ bronze psu

My question is will it work? Without any issues? Given that the cpu can only work with ddr4 2400mhz?

Planning to buy ryzen 3rd gen on the next 3 months..

Thanks for any suggestion and comments..

It will work but the RAM will set max 2400 because that's what the CPU supports, when you get better CPU then you can set the RAM to 2666

I see no sense to use a CPU that's basically what you can find on FM2+...

The board is rather terrible, but nowhere near as bad as the risky PSU from the wording you described it. What model is that?

CPU: i7-2600K 4751MHz 1.44V (software) --> 1.47V at the back of the socket Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme4 (BCLK: 103.3MHz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: Adata XPG 2x8GB DDR3 (XMP: 2133MHz 10-11-11-30 CR2, custom: 2203MHz 10-11-10-26 CR1 tRFC:230 tREFI:14000) GPU: Asus GTX 1070 Dual (Super Jetstream vbios, +70(2025-2088MHz)/+400(8.8Gbps)) SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (main boot drive), Transcend SSD370 128GB PSU: Seasonic X-660 80+ Gold Case: Antec P110 Silent, 5 intakes 1 exhaust Monitor: AOC G2460PF 1080p 144Hz (150Hz max w/ DP, 121Hz max w/ HDMI) TN panel Keyboard: Logitech G610 Orion (Cherry MX Blue) with SteelSeries Apex M260 keycaps Mouse: BenQ Zowie FK1

Though you can get a 3200-3600 RAM if you want to get 3rd gen because ryzen likes 'fast' RAM. It will give you performance gains for sure on 3rd gen, but idk about the A12

And yeah, like @Jurrunio said, I recommend getting a better AM4 board if you want to upgrade to 3rd gen. Also don't cheap out on the PSU because if it fails, it can damage your entire system

If you're buying a better CPU in a few months, just wait and build then. There's no point in building now and wasting the money on that CPU.

Also, if you're upgrading an a few months, why wouldn't you be buying the 4000 series?
