And at both times he mentioned how less contact = less friction. Goddamn it. Friction is independent of surface area :( (facepalm)

EDIT: Actually it can affect the friction @T.Vengeance . The smaller the surface area the higher the pressure per square inch. Means engery, means melts the ice faster, changes solid frition into liquid friction. Don't know if it works that way, but maybe it does and the dude was right, but explained it badly. Have not done any calulations and not going to do any. You should get a energy per second value and see how temps change in this time the stone is in contact to the ice or water till it's over it.

 

Well not "more energy", but I get what you're saying :). More pressure to melt the ice and such. This is the reason why I hate dumbed down explanations. He could've easily said what you just said. Less surface area which concentrates the force and melts the ice.
