Cheapest 3-way SLI capable GPU?

Just want to try it for the laughs, so obviously don't want to spend too much money, however, I also need it to not be so old and cheap a card that i can't find 3 of them

any suggestions?

I don't think it'll be cheap like you're hoping since you'll need a HEDT platform to achieve 3 way sli.

 

X99 with like a i7 6800K or 5820K? even x399 with the TR 1900X this isn't going to be cheap.

Some old 7xx or 9xx series card is probably the best bet

I ran quad SLI (2 x GTX 295's) on a MSI X58 board with an i7-930. Is that old enough? Still got them stored away along with 3 x GTX-280's.

^^^ Old kepler boyes. Even the 660 has SLI tabs IIRC, I assume it supports 3 or 4 way. IDK if that was limited to only higher models or not. 

Or you be a badass and run 4x 980 Tis or 1080 Tis and pubstomp newer systems in 3DMark because even 2x 2080 Tis can't get close to 4x 1080 Ti. Not cheap tho

They do support SLI the issue here is the driver and support hell at this point, have in mind kepler and fermi are not even supported by nvidia at this date and age... all software is outdated.

 

I suppose since OP wants to play around then it's okay but it has the potential to be a lot more headache doing on anything prior to Maxwell.

going off the video referenced previously, i think i may go with a GT 710 setup, however, only if they work with Folding@home. does anybody know if this is the case?
