First Time PC Builder

Hey all,

 

Long time gamer, first time PC builder here. I have decided to sell off a bunch of equipment (65” tv, tv console, iMac) to fund my first ever PC build and desk setup. I’ve been a Mac and PS4 guy since college and just sort of realized how inefficient my set up was. It’s time to make the switch. Quick background:

 

Gaming preferences - I love Strategy and simulator games, but also enjoy Open World RPG, and the occassional shooter. Some of my favorite games include Skyrim, Civ 6, XCom2, Cities Skyline. Because of this, I feel like frame rate isn’t as high of a priority to me as it would be for others...

 

My budget - $800-$1000 excluding peripherals

 

Minimizing variables - so far I have landed on the Ryden 5 3600 CPU, and I intend for this set up to double as a home office, so I want to go with an ultrawide 1440 monitor as a baseline (excluded from budget). I’m hoping that my PC budget can accommodate 1440.

I expect to go for SSD and 16 GB RAM

 

My main questions:

1. What motherboard should I go for that is compatible and offers me flexibility to grow? I’m a bit nervous interacting with the bios, so this is one of my biggest questions

2. what GPU should I target? I don’t want to blow my budget, but don’t want to totally bottleneck out of the box.
