First Ever PC Build

Kamikaze420

This is a part sheet I'm working on for my first build and would like some feedback on it. Am I gonna bottleneck anywhere, will it push enough frames to take advantage of the monitor, are the parts chosen adequate? Thank you.

I honestly thought I had a 550W not that that's what you recommended. I went with the 590 after looking at monitors and found G-Sync ones were way more than Freesync. Do they not really because I was going with a 1660 super before that

Nvidia cards since 10th gen also work with Freesync now

Do you have any specific requirements that needs to be met beyond the budget? And how comfortable are you with eBay and/or second-hand goods?

Just 1080 gaming at 60 fps is pretty much my goal. VR ready would be nice.

GPUs really useful for VR start at 300USD with the RX 5700 cards.

Windows 10 Keys can be had on eBay or from resellers for quite cheap. So I put in 25USD for it. Case could come down a little bit depending on what you want to do. (I have zero idea how good or bad that case is for being a Case.) I removed the extra CPU cooler for the time being, as it isn't technically needed but can be added back after the rest is settled. Upgraded the storage to be better, with a better SSD for boot and more for bulk storage.

Went with a 8 Gb RX 570 and upped the PSU to 550w, which is all any of the GPUs really need, unless you go for a really high-end one.  With that much space in the budget, it's now just a matter of what would you like to actually get for creature features?

Thank you this is very helpful. The case wouldn't be my first choice but I'm also doing a build for my daughter as well and this was one of only a few cases that came in pink so I added it in on mine for feedback to make sure it wasn't complete garbage. Speaking of which, if you were building a PC for a 6-year-old looking to play Minecraft, Roblox, and possibly "ugh" Fortnite what sort of set up would you recommend? I want to give her a solid set up that will get her started but feel it doesn't have to be 1080 and 60fps and such. I was thinking of downgrading the motherboard possibly the CPU to a Ryzen 3, less powerful graphics card and such.

For a child, there's kind of two options: a low-budget new build w/ some used parts or a well-chosen used build.

For the Used direction, I'd do something like this:

https://www.newegg.com/acer-aspire-tc-tc-885-accfli5o-student-home-office/p/N82E16883101365?Item=9SIACA1A2K8512

Then get a used RX 570 from ebay for no more than 110USD (with shipping), probably closer to 90USD. I'd wait on the GPU until you get the refurbished system in and you can take a look at whether you need to buy a PSU as well.  There's probably better ReFurb deals than this one, but the Core i5 parts from 6th through 9th gen are the products to target.

For a new build + used GPU, I'd do this.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XTQZJ28/ref=dp_cerb_2  For the 85USD 1600AF.

Should be noted the 1600AF is actually a 2600 with like 100 Mhz lower boost clock that they just binned back to the 1600 series for "reasons". You could even use it in your build to save money as well.  Actually, scratch that. You should get the 1600AF. Just make sure to use that link, as it's the 85USD part.

Why Core i5? Also would something like this build Linus had be suitable possibly? I'm not trying to ignore your advice but I feel building it will help in developing an interest deeper than just games.

Refurb route is mostly down to knowing all of the parts work together and normally some cost savings.

As for that build, it sort of pains me to say it, but that could be a rough go in Minecraft these days.  I'd also go an SSD over the Firecuda as the storage. And spend a little more on the PSU.

I'll check into switching as I'm looking to learning overclocking and see that the 1600 af outperforms the 2600 after overclocking

3.8 to 3.9 all-core seems to be fairly common. Main thing is the performance difference between the 2600 and the 1600AF is minimal and you save 35 bucks. (And in 1-2 years you can switch to a 3600 for really cheap as well.) Actually, the 35USD saved could go right into a nice aftermarket air cooler. Not effect OC much of any, but a good savings rolled into a useful part.
