I'm slightly inclined to agree with Logan. While I've never had the privilege to actually own a mechanical keyboard, I've always tried them in computer shops. Demoing it on NCIX's gaming PCs. I gotta admit. Rubber domes still cut it for me. What do you guys think?

Once you go mechanical you never go back is a saying I have seen thrown around and I agree although I did like my old membrane one and the feel of the K40 felt good but not as good.

Going from a cheapo Trust £8 keyboard that was tortured for 5 years to a Ducky Shine 3 TKL... yeah I'm never going back to rubber dome. EVER.

Once you get a mech you never get a membrane again. I am on my second mech and hate to use a membrane on other computers. It just feels so much worse.

I agree. There is nothing wrong with rubber domes yet people act like they're something that doesn't work at all and that you need mechanical, I've never gotten that.

That's a trend on these forums,   same thing w/ TN and IPS, and other things etc.

If one thing is better than another, they act like you shouldn't own the lesser object, like you HAVE to have the best, or you're not doing it right

I've let people try them and many feel it's not that big a difference, but I once let a friend use it exclusively for a week and THEN go back to rubber domes and you WILL notice it. Still, I don't think they're for everyone and I only recently got my first one. I hope they can get more mainstream to a point where they're able to decrease selling prices.

The K40 looks good btw. If I wasn't planning to get a mechanical (specially the new RGB mechanical!) I'd probably be getting that one.

i got my 1st mech kb w mx blues and it was nice but i dont think its THAT much of an improvement. but the blues are really good because they have that tactile bump which means you can be more confident that you hit all the keys you wanted to hit. but that  doesnt mean typing on membranes is horrible to me.

for an all in one keyboard I think rubber domes are better then mechs but I think mechs are one of those bragging right things that you can own for a cheap price. Frankly Topres rule all as far as all around keyboards in my opinion.

Mechanical or chiclet keyboard for me. The keyboard on my Macbook Air is not that bad actually, but my Logitech G710+ with the O-rings removed is just a dream to type on.

I just got my K70 Brown switches 2 weeks ago and at first I thought that I didn't feel a difference until I had to go to programming class a few days back and had to type awkwardly because the membrane keys felt really tight and hard to type on.

I guess it's just personal preference... and for me, I'll never go back again to membrane.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL you hate reds that much? Whys that? I think I've only tried Browns and Blues and yes, I like Browns better than Blues.

They just combine the worst of both worlds, the mushiness of membrane with the noise of mech :P

Lol. I have two main PCs for gaming and one uses a Ducky Shine 2 (MX Brown) and one with a rubber dome Microsoft Digital Media Keyboard 3000. Honestly, I disagree. I go back and forth between a mech and a regular keyboard many times every day and I don't complain. Especially when I need to do homework or something, the MS keyboard feels much better to type on for long periods of time, and is way smoother then even Cherry MX Red and Black keyboards that I've tried. It might not feel as good if all you're doing is mashing WASD and the shift key, but if you go mech, no it will not kill you to go back to regular keyboards. And there are times when you'd even want a regular keyboard back over a mech.

That's because it seems that you prefer a linear key stroke to a tactile one. One of the thing you'd stated here is how smooth the MS keyboard is, true since it's rubber dome and linear, The Brown may be the wrong choice for you then, you could perhaps prefer a Red or a Black over the Brown you have now. You want smoothness? Try a Topre and tell me if you don't like the cloud of boobs feel....go ahead, I double dare you! :D

I mentioned Red and Black. I tried the CM Quickfire Rapid with Red and TT eSports Knucker Plunger with black. Still don't feel that good for typing. If I could only have one keyboard I'd choose Brown for a good gaming and typing balance. Actually I'd prefer my Blackwidow with it's blue switches if people around me weren't so bothered by the noise.

I think it may also depend on the keyboard you are upgrading from. If you have a good rubber dome keyboard that functions properly for the most part you probably wont see any reason to upgrade to a mechanical keyboard. If you were someone like me, however, who had a hand-me-down piece of garbage keyboard with half of the keys sticking when you type and having all sorts of problems, a mechanical keyboard can feel god sent.

i used a membrane keyboard til Christmas of 2013 and now i have blues and love them to bit however i didn't mind using membrane because most keyboards are membrane so it was easy to use now with mech when i have to a school pc it have to press the keys hard to feel like i hit the key but i liked my old keyboard besides the fact that it wasn't backlit and still use it when i'm working on other pc's
