Current Specs:

Processor: AMD A8-6600K APU with Radeon HD Graphics 3.90GHz

RAM: 1x8GB DDR3 1600MHz

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 2GB

Motherboard: Gigabyte F2A58M-HD2

Storage: 256GB SSD

Now in the long run. I'm planning on doing a whole new build with the lastest and greatest (within reason) but for now i still want just a little bit of a performance boost. As the motherboard is a FM2 Socket, i was thinking of getting the AMD Athlon X4-760K as it seems like the best CPU for this socket. I'm just worried if that will be enough to see a little bit of an increase or if i also need to get a better graphics card as well.

Let me know what you guys think and if there is a better CPU for this socket.

Thanks in advance.

Might as well just overclock the CPU and save your money for the upgrade.

A10-6800B or A10-6800K are the fastest on the FM2 socket, I'd suggest searching the used market if you really want to upgrade. But like someone suggested try overclocking first if you can get the same speed why spend the money.

GPU drivers giving you a hard time? Try this! (DDU)

I would say don't spend the money on a new CPU.  It's too small of a performance increase to be worth paying 30-50$ it would cost.

Spend the money on a new video card, like a RX 570 or RX 580, if your budget is tight.

You can still sell your CPU, MB and RAM as a bundle, and maybe even include the video card in the bundle. Should be worth close to 100$, which could buy you either the CPU or the motherboard... a cheap socket AM4 board is 60$, and you can buy a Ryzen 1600 AF for 85$ or something like a Ryzen 3000g for 50-60$,

i was wrong your board also supports FM2+ CPUs. The A10-7890K would be a better pick.

if this is the correct board

Double checked and my board does support FM2+. I'll look into it. I tried overclocking even the smallest amount i could just now and my computer just freezes and i'm completely locked out. I have to hard reset to get it online again. I might go for that CPU because (In terms of when i bought them) the GPU is 'newer' and i haven't changed the cpu since when i first bought the system. I suppose it's also to have slightly more reliable hardware as well.

For now, just get a used rx580. They go for around $100 on eBay/AliExpress with free international shipping.

And OC your CPU.

Also, what PSU do you have?
