Probably about $300 but I don't mind saving for a little bit.

So your gonna need a new board, you already have the fastest cpu for that board, so thats probably 100-200 bucks.

You need a new case, dell did some property stuff, so you can't just easily swap any board in, but if you really like that case, you can probably get a new board in with some cutting and soldering. So thats about 50-100bucks

You can reuse ram, might not be best, but it should work.

3700x is about 300$, and what id pick here.

PSU should transfer over. Same with gpu, and drives. Reinstall of os isn't a bad idea though

So for the 3700x + board and case that Id do here, your thinking about $400-500

Hey all, I'm thinking of upgrading my pc but I'm not sure where I should upgrade. It was a prebuilt that I got for christmas. I use it for gaming and programming mainly. Any suggestions on upgrade paths? I seem to max my cpu fairly often lol.

My specs:

 Motherboard : Dell xps 8920

 CPU: Intel core i7-7700

 GPU: Radeon rx 480

 24gb of ram

When is your cpu slow?

If your cpu limited, your gonna new a new board, and Id do a new case when your at it.

Typically when I have visual studio, unity and few chrome tabs open. Or a game and few tabs.

for a single gpu, and not many other devices, id get a b450 board with a newer bios to support 3xxx cpus. Id get something like a b450-a pro max from msi or a Asus TUF B450-Pro

Do you need wifi? If so, get a board with it.
