Hi, I am currently running a 1070ti with an i5 8600K, it's been great at 1440p gaming so far, except on red dead redemption 2. I have the chance to upgrade to an ASUS strix gaming 2080 super at a significant discount on retail price. However I am concerned that with the higher FPS on the new card there is a risk of CPU bottleneck.

Any idea if this will be the case or will it be marginal?

At 1440p you should be okay for now with the 8600K, especially if you've got at least a little OC on it.

On very CPU intensive titles such as AC: Odyssey or BF5, I'd expect about ~80-90% usage on the CPU.

Whether you end up bottlenecking on some things or not, your still going to experience a significant improvement to your FPS.

if you are getting the 2080S for cheaps, just do it, the 8600k can probably handle 95% of the games out there, also check this video out for rdr2

The 2080 super for a discount is a good deal regardless of a CPU bottleneck. I'd worry about an underpowered processor after the fact

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

I’d do it. Could always get a better cpu later if need be.
I still prefer my 1080 monitor so I sit around 80-90% usage on the cpu. So not a lot of room for a 2080s but may be a good reason to use my 1440.
