Hey guys, first time post here.  I am currently in a dilemma, do I upgrade my gpu first, or my cpu and motherboard first?  My specs for my computer are a I5 6600k, gigabyte z170 Ud3 ultra, 1tb Samsung nvme ssd, gtx 1060 6gb, 650 gold psu, 16 gb corsair vengeance 3200 ram, and a aio cooler for my cpu.  So after doing some research on which I should upgrade first I've come across conflicting answers.  I also should mention I'm mostly gaming on a 1440p, 144hz monitor.  I also use my computer for cyber security, running a virtual machine, and multiple programs open at a time along with Chrome and multiple tabs...  Please help shed some light on what's going to be more effective (in terms of gaming), upgrading to a 2070 super, or to an i7 9700k and mobo.

@SilentAssassin89 with either a cpu or GPU upgrade you’re still going to be bottlenecks. The i5 would be fine if you weren’t trying to multitask like crazy on it while gaming. Also the 1060 won’t be able to keep up at 1440p 144hz. I would say upgrade your CPU first (I would actually suggest ryzen if your programs play well with AMD since you’re multitasking a lot). You can play at a lower render resolution or just run the games at 1080p of 1440p is too demanding for the 1060.

I am not too familiar with amd, as I have only really ever had intel cpu's.  So as far as price range, what would you guys suggest for an amd cpu thats around the i7 9700k price range?  Also, as for as mobo goes, i believe i've seen that my ram is ok to use if i were to switch cpu's, but also i really only want/need two m.2 slots, any recommendations on that ?
