I am in search of a nice 4k TV for $500 - $1000 but mostly around the $500 range. I would like to see what I can buy if I double the budget.

I would prefer a Samsung, LG, and Sony brands only. Although if you think it is worth for me to look into then please post it.

Thank you

Way too vague for a good recommendation.  What do you want from a TV?  Why do you prefer those brands?  What size do you want?  What will you watch?  Will it be used for gaming?  Will it be used with a PC?  What kind of room will it be in?  Will you mount the TV?  Tell us more about your needs and wants.

Heyy man.

1. What do I want from a TV?!! To watch TV?

2. I think those brands make great TV overall. Samsung is always the king of TV year after year. Didn't they win another CES 2020 reward something to do with their TV? But like I said if there is a different brand worth checking out please post and share.

3. Size. 50" and up. Let's start there for now. I think under 50" is too small.

4. Netflix, I have apple tv, Why does this matter as to WHAT I will watch??

5. No gaming. Got a PC for that. If you mean console then Maybe? That is a BIG maybe. I probably won't though.

6. Used with a PC? Do you mean to use the TV as a 2nd monitor? I probably won't be doing that.

7. Living Room.

8. No mounting

9. I know that I'll probably need to buy a speaker separately but I got a couple in mind.

I hope I have made the vagueness go away and you can now start helping me hunt for a nice 4K TV.

Thank you!

I don't usually recommend using the smart TV features of most TVs as they are under powered and an external device will usually perform better.  They're just good TVs for the price.  I mean . . . you could buy two of those and still stay within your budget.

No, I have an older Vizio.

Sounds like ur just after 'a TV' , with no specific requirements in regards to the kind of things enthusiasts more knowledgeable users look at.

None the less i would still advise u take a look at review sites and get a basic understanding on what makes a good display.

The above site linked is a great resource for full tests and reviews as well as articles on what test results mean and why they are important.

A Panasonic TH-42PZ85BA Plasma.  its old and dying, and Plasma TVs are no longer made.

Why? because i cant stand LCD.

However this year ill be upgrading to a LG CX 48" OLED once they release.

Why an OLED?

Well as i said , i cant stand LCD ..to many flaws in the tech, even vs Plasma, but OLED on the other hand only has 1 flaw and i believe i can work around that (so called 'burn-in'), the 1 thing stopping me from buying one in previous years was the size, 55" is to big, 48" is however just barely small enough, would still prefer smaller but it will do. 48" happens to be very close to the total size of my 42" Plasma including its thick bezels, so in the end it shouldn't use up any more space than my current screen.

OLED the flaw is the burn-ins? I see that often on my super old plasma TV. It sure is DUE... OVER DUE for an upgrade.

What do you think about Samsung's TV? QLED it is called?

OLEDs 'burn-in' flaw is somewhat exaggerated primarily due to peoples experience with OLED screens on mobiles, which isnt a fair use case tbh.

Under normal TV usage an OLED is perfectly fine, I only mention it for my use case because its going to be used as a PC monitor, so a lot of static content is going to been shown so ill have to baby it a little. But im somewhat used to that anyway as i use a Plasma.

For you i'd say an OLED would be perfectly fine, but with ur top end budget being $1000 i think OLED is just slightly out of reach.

QLED is just a normal LCD TV. Its a Samsung marketing term / naming scheme that indicates their LCD TVs that use a quantum dot filter for better colors.

Much like how Hisense is marketing their ULED XD TVs that are coming out this year, they are still LCD TVs, But use a specific technology unique to Hisense (DualCell technology to replace traditional backlights)

What i think about any TV is determined by their reviews and test results, if they have been reviewed and tested. So if it does well on rtings.com for example, then my opinion of it will reflect that.

QLED do, do well, and Samsung TV's especially also do well for gaming use, which for som1 like myself its something i look at also. When it comes to LCD display ill say that at the moment, Samsung is in the lead, BUT im very much keeping an eye on Hisense now since their LCD performance at CES this year has been impressive.

Cool.

I'll check the website and decide what to get.
