its a card of  100 grams  1/5 of a graphicscard..  hold inplace at the back.. with no electricity running inside that hook. i cant see any risk what so ever

Three things here are fact.

  1.  It can be done.
  2.  It has been done.
  3.  It can cause issues.

One thing here is opinion.

  1.  I don't believe it's worth it.

I have answered your question, objectively, it can be done. You can find discussions about the subject from multiple locations. I have added commentary that, subjectively, it's not something that I recommend, the extra 15 minutes  you're saving (for, again, what is not likely to take place often) is not worth it to me.

You can do what you like with this information and your hardware (you own it after all is said and done) The police are not going to break down your door if you do. I will also not be held liable for any damages that result from it.

That clip is used as part of the retention mechanism of the PCIe bracket/slot. Theoretically, it can be removed, but it will present other complications.

Is there a necessity for it to be removed? I'd strongly advise against it.

i got a Asus m.2 card. if i want to upgrade the nvme drives i need to take out the GPUs frist, if i remove the hook i can remove it easy.

what complications?

If I understand what you're saying, there should be absolutely no need to remove that tab.

As I said above, it's used to help lock the card into position within the PCIe slot. That tab in conjunction with the screws fastened to the bracket at the rear of your case help to keep the card, and the pins/pads aligned properly.

If you'd like to remove it, it can (and has been) done. You do so at your own risk however. I still advise against it.

The extra few minutes it takes to remove and reinstall a GPU is worth more than any potential instability/complications that removing the locking tab might present. switching out M.2 drives isn't something you're likely to be doing often, either.

Again, it has been done before. You can search through Google and find people that have done it, as well as how to do it. I still advise against it.

You're considering introducing *potential* issue over 15 minutes worth of time. If that's worth it for you, that's your decision. It's not worth it from my perspective.

I've done it with gpus in super small cases. Where a complete dismantle would be needed just to get to the lever. But... It personally I would remove the lever not the clip. Motherboards are much cheaper and don't have as good of retail value as cards.

Gaming PC: • AMD Ryzen 7 3900x • 16gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200mhz • Founders Edition 2080ti • 2x Crucial 1tb nvme ssd • NZXT H1• Logitech G915TKL • Logitech G Pro • Asus ROG XG32VQ • SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless

Laptop: MacBook Pro M1 512gb

Oh well cut that sucker off then. Just be mindful that if you ever move the pc then the card could come loose at the back edge
