Buying a new GPU

pixellover1

So, this year i choose to save up so i can buy a pretty gpu,

right now i have a amd radeon 7700, and im looking to upgrade to a nvidia gpu,

i have a cx600 power supply, and a gigabyte z77m-d3h motherboard, with 16 gb of ddr3 ram,

if i save my money carefully, i can buy a 980, or maybe should i save up a little longer and get the 1070?

all i wanna ask is, which is worth it for the price?

(im sorry for grammar errors)

the 1070 gives about 25% more fps (on average, depends on the game) and is also better suited for 1440p gaming due to it's 8gb of ram. depending on the prices you find them for (i hope used), I'd get the 1070 if it fits your budget and it's less than 50% more expensive than the 980.

What monitor do you have

Resolution? Refresh Rate?

I agree, no point spending all the cash when the monitor is a 60/75.

60hz refresh rate and 1920 x 1080

my budget is negotiable, i aim for around 8 months so i can pay for a 980, but if i save till december i can get a 1070 by christmas

I've been in your struggle saving up for computer parts, and I'd say you get the best value with cheaper used stuff.

In 8-12 months both GPUs will be different prices and new stuff might be out.

Maybe look for a used 970 or similar if the price is right much sooner. You will get a massive upgrade over a 7700, and it will be enough for 1080p 60hz.

My Rig: CPU: 3570k@4.4Ghz | GPU: XFX r9 270x | Mobo: Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 | RAM: 16GB DDR3 2133 | Cooler: Hyper 212+

PSU: OCZ 700w | Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster Z | Headphones: AD700 | Case: NZXT M59 | Monitor: 144hz 1080p
