How do I get this bracket off? (Fixed)

Are you sure prying

Are you sure that will work since it’s pretty stuck in there and I fear it will be enough force to bend and break the motherboard.

I had similar situation with one of the prebuilds ststems, on the end I found out that bracket was stick to mobo by double sided tape (pretty strong one) . I just had to pull it really strong and stick credit card underneath

I have tried screwing off the cpu holder or what you call it but it seems to be stuck still. This my first time and I need help anyone knows how to remove it? Oh and yeah I am trying to install a better cooler than the old but that requires a new bracket. (This was fixed thank you everyone that helped me.)

Should just be able to pull or pry it off

Tried pushing the screw holes from the backplate down and out?

Agreed - It's just stuck and simple prying will work.
May have something like a thin pad or gasket causing this to happen but don't toss it, reuse this gasket if it remains intact because it's there for a reason.

You can reinsert an screw on one corner and push down, working around the four holes.

At least that's a safer way to go than prying.

Stick a screw in the screw hole and use that to try and punch or push the mounts out of the holes.

Are you sure the new cooler needs a new bracket? Most coolers that are good use a threaded back plate and nearly all threaded back plates and cooler screws are the same M3 thread. There's a few exceptions of course, but see if the cooler can thread in to whats there now because that is a VERY robust and strong backing plate you've got already. Not to mention, it seems to be part of the CPU socket lid mechanism as well which means if you take that plate off you won't have the two screw holes for the lid to screw down into and you won't have the screw post for it to lock down under either.

I've seen these stuck on with silicone before! As above partly screw the screws back in and push down on them. Should come off then

It is part of the CPU hold-down mechanism, definitely keep the piece beause you'll need it.

Reread the post, I did say using a screw is a better way.
You CAN pry it loose if you must but great care has to be taken when doing that. Use a really thin mini-screwdriver for that if it's the only way you have to get it done, beware of scratching the PCB of the board during this process.
If you do, work around the four holes to work the plate's studs out evenly as possible.

Yes it’s an hp prebuilt.

What cooler are you installing?

If it absolutely has to come off you'll need to find a 'normal' style CPU socket to take the socket back plate from so the lid and post can be reassembled to the board. I suppose technically if the cooler is holding the CPU with enough pressure it could be OK but I've never done that.

Use a hair dryer to warm up the bracket and board then pop it loose, less chance of things going sideways and knocking a SMD off the board if you slip or something.
