Which GPU for 1440p gaming and VR?

celerystruct

Hello all,

I was thinking of upgrading my current gpu from an RX 590 to something else. I mostly play single player games like Tomb Raider, Witcher 3, Sekiro, Monster Hunter, and the like. I play on a 1440p monitor and it struggle to maintain 60 fps on high settings at times. I'd like to be able to game at ideally 144 fps but I'd be happy with something that can comfortably maintain 80-100 fps on high to ultra settings.

I was thinking between the RX 5700 XT Sapphire Nitro+ and an EVGA 2070 Super and I wanted to know if one was better than the other or if there were other cards that people would recommend over these cards.

Budget is about max $700 but I'd like it to be around $450-$600 ideally. I'm located in the US. Thank you.

I think the RX 5700 XT and 2070 Super are definitely both good options for 1440p, but overall, a RX 5700 XT is a much better value (Around $500 for 2070S compared to only around $350 for an XT). If you're going to spend the money for a 2070 Super, I would honestly just go to a 2080. It's not much more expensive.

1070 Ti and 1080 would still be great options unless you need raytracing and the other benefits of RTX. My 1070 SC has no trouble with VR. If you have the money though I would get an RTX card for just that more futureproofing.

I should mention I'm trying to buy the cards from Amazon as I have gift cards from them. The price for a 5700 xt Nitro+ is about $460 and the 2070S is about $540.

I looked into the 1070 ti on there but it seems they cost about as much as a 2070S on there.

Are there any particularly good brands for 2070S or 2080? I've read that for 5700 xt the nitro+ is one of the best for cooling.

basically as fast as ur budget can buy for VR, even a 2080 ti can choke depending on the game (and frame rate is extra important for VR), for brand, if they are all the same price, no reason not to go EVGA as they have proven warranty.

In terms of bang for buck though, nothing beats a 300usd 5700 with power limit raised.
