My AKG K7XXs recently broke and I'm in the market for a new pair. For music, those were alright, but fantastic for shooters. Now I'm not playing a ton of those now, I'm looking for a good pair of headphones that'll be excellent for game while listening to metal and indie rock.

The 4xx and 58x both sound really interesting, but the Hifiman 400i also seems neat.

Which of these would be a good fit?

Also, I already have a headphone amp.

So if you want something intimate with good imaging with a neutral mid focused sound signature that's pretty laid back the sennheiser's are the way to go. They are also pretty damn easy to drive. No amp required

If you want something with wider sound stages similar imaging less precise when it comes to angles but makes up for it In terms of rear front imaging due to angles stock pads. Excellent sub bass extension the treble can be hot if your overly sensitive. But to me is just enough. Acoustic instruments especially drums and guitar have excellent timbre on the 4xx.  It is a heavier headphone with some build and qc concerns. But it sounds awesome especially if you already have or are willing to buy an amp.

Personally I own both the 4xx to me is the better can for competitive gaming for slower games like siege or Cs go where you need to know certain sound cues and distances due to the treble as well as soundstage. But for faster shooters where you just need to know where they are imediately like quake or black ops 4 the 58x are the better can in that respect.

I'm really looking, I guess, for more immersive sound in single player games since competitive shooters aren't my thing. But it seems like the 4xx might be better for Battlefield and Tarkov on the occasions I play those.

Should the Fidelio x2 even be considered? There's just some great prices on all 3 of these, which makes the choice that much more annoying.

Fidelios are great for a nice immersive sound the bass really brings out the explosions and gun shots but it's really not that great for competitive games. Another one to consider if you have an amp is the dt 880... The $150-300 range of headphones have some sick deals

I'm not huge on competitive games. I'm mostly playing WoW, RDR2, Rocket League and sometimes Battlefield.

But I'm starting to heavily lean towards the 4xx, but the QC issues pop up in many things I've seen about them.

Had mine for a while that have been good so far. Hifiman has supposedly fixed the h400i so you could take a look at that.

Talking about 4xx, I've just received a few days ago. It has a loose grill, which can spin freely. Admittedly, It is easy to fix and aside from that, I've no other problem with its build quality (at least for now). With that said, there is a chance you will get a slightly to completely defect unit and if you can accept this fact, then you can continue considering it.
