Can RAM that is not on your mobo QVL list cause a bottleneck?

Hello everyone,

I just replaced my RAM today with sticks that were on my Motherboards QVL list. My old RAM that I had was not on the QVL list had issues. I could only run the old RAM sticks in XMP 1 mode, and if I turned off XMP and tried to boot the computer it would be stuck in an endless cycle of rebooting itself.

The new RAM sticks that are on my Motherboards QVL list I can run with or without XMP just fine and everything runs great. My question is, can RAM that is not on my Motherboards QVL list cause a bottleneck in my computer?

non-QVL ram is just non-tested ram, they may or may not work. the mb manufacturer may have a updated QVL per bios updates, some mb's support more ram and profiles with bios updates.  qualified vendors ram has been tested and approved to run all xmp, docp profiles. if you were experiencing problems before you have done the right thing and gone with tested ram for your motherboard. most likely the old ram is fine for a different mb. maybe you could sell or trade it to recoup your losses.

Good to know that you for the information and putting my mind at ease! I noticed an improvement put this tested memory in compared to the old one, but yeah I am going to try to sell it on eBay to recoup the cost that was a good ideal!
