Hello.

I got a very lovely new monitor for Christmas which I would very much like to use. Only problem is my graphics card only has a DVI port, 3 mini display ports and I mini HDMI port.

The plan was to run from the display port of my monitor but I cannot seem to find an adaptor to convert to mini display port that can run at 144hz. I have heard that this is better than hdmi.

Could anyone point me in the right direction of an item that will solve my problem? Failing that I do have 2 hdmi ports on the back of my monitor.

Many thanks

Mini and 'normal' displayport are the same, except in a different size.

You can get a simple mini displayport to displayport cable and it will work.

Man, do I not miss mini HDMI GPU :P that was such a weird period in GPU history

A straight Mini displayport to full displayport cable will work fine.

The ones I looked up on Amazon had no indication (in the description anyway) that it would run at 144hz. When looked in the questions and answers section of each one I checked people said they would only do 60hz.

Unless it specifically says it a RBR (Reduced Bit Rate) cable, it will support 144Hz fine.

How is Mini DisplayPort different from full-size DisplayPort?

It isn't. Mini DisplayPort (mDP) is just a different shape connector. It is functionally identical to a full-size DisplayPort connector, there are no differences in capability, feature support, or compatibility with devices or adapters (other than the different physical shape). The data that goes through an mDP connector is exactly the same as the data that goes through a full-size DP connector. Passive DP-to-mDP adapters can be freely used to change between DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort to match whichever connector your device has without affecting the signal in any way.
