Along with my other gaming rig, I have a hand-me-down from an older cousin. Was wondering any common uses for an extra computer.

This is whats extra, an  Alienware Alpha ASM100-1580 Console. I know its pretty darn low-end, but I have no one else to give it to, and I doubt anyone would want to buy this online...

I have an even older i3 3220 system I'm using as a sort of nas with a drive for each family member in the house. You'd likely need a new case though for that purpose. Also maybe use it as a HTPC? for youtube/netflix on the tv if you have one.

Oooo, a HTPC or living room PC is a good idea

Not a bad option.

I'd run Folding@home on it if it was anything but SteamOS. Should be fine as a HTPC though.

Ive heard about projects where they use your computer for other productive things. Folding@Home seems really cool and I'll see if I can dedicate it to something like that!

So if I were to take the HTPC route, what keyboard and mouse would you guys reccommend that I could use in the living room?

if no gaming i would go with one of those all in ones with qwerty keyboard and touch pad, about the size of ones hand. i use one for a bedroom htpc

If you don't plan on using it for keyboard and mouse games, I'd get a Logitech K400 or K400+ keyboard. They have trackpads so no need for a mouse. I only play controller-centric games on my HTPC. Anything needing a proper keyboard and mouse setup, I just play on the main rig.

Here is maybe an idea: why not an airmouse? If it just going to be a htpc and not for productivity purposes, you can try that. I have it for my htpc and it works quite well.
