Thermal application methods

Is there a difference between applying methods for Ryzen and Intel? The circuits are differently aligned so that sounds logical.
Though on a second thought it maybe negligible.

 

So which is your method - line / X / pea size dot?

Pea size dot

Pea size, a bit more than a corn kernel size, whatever ... only on bigger chips like threadripper you need more paste and you have to use an X or several lines of paste.

The reason I'm asking (aside from the fact that I'm gonna build my first system in just a few days) is that I saw on the gamer nexus build pad this drawing 

and as you can see the ryzen is either an X or a line whereas the coffee lake is a pea size dot or a line.
