If anything going SSD-exclusive is preferred. Hard drives are good for archival storage where they never need to be moved. SSDs are good for everything else.

While I recommend that people use an SSD only for the boot drive (OS, programs, and games), it's only becasue that is more cost effective than using all SSDs (SSDs are expensive and their speed isn't really needed for data for most people). However, I've been using all SSDs for some time now. I'm between desktop rigs right now but I still have the data SSDs (five of them) and their backup SSDs (20) and I keep them all updated. My notebooks all have SSDs and their backup drives (2 per notebook) are SSDs.

One has to be proactive, not reactive, to ensure the safety of one's data so backup your data! And RAID is NOT a backup!
