I'm planning to get the Asus ROG Strix B450-F motherboard, Ryzen 5 3600, and 16GB 3600 DDR4 G Skill Trident Z RGB. Upon checking the QVL, the RAM is listed there, but on the motherboard specs page, these are the listed supported memory speeds:

3466(O.C.)/3200(O.C.)/3000(O.C.)/2800(O.C.)/2666/2400/2133 MHz

What does this mean then? Should I just get a 3200 RAM instead?

On a QVL, it typically lists 'speed' and 'supported speed'. The latter column will show what it can actually run at.

B450 came out in a time of Ryzen 2000, which supported 2666Mhz on their own, so anything above that is technically an overclock run by the motherboard. But it often does work.

The motherboard lists what it officially supports. Isn't there a price-difference between 3200 and 3600? Personally I do not recommend memory more than 1, maybe 2 notches faster than for what the cpu suggests, The sweet-spot is said to be around 3000.

Looked it up just now. Seems like Ryzen 3000 series will support for that 3600MHz OC.
Someone with B450 Mobo said he's OC it to 4000MHz. Hope this helps. ❤️

Seems like need a bit of tweaking, so I won't be doing it if I were you.

This was helpful, thank you!

There definitely is a price difference, but it's pretty negligible for me. 3200 originally was the plan, but it seems to be out of stock

Myself is looking to upgrade to a 3600x and from previous posts and discussion with people here, the sweet spot for Ryzen 3000 is 3600MHz @ C16, these sticks are rather pricey at the moment so if it is significantly cheaper, get a 3400MHz @ C16 as they will out perform by a very small amount a 3600 MHz @ C18/19 etc but save you some coin

The sweet spot is Ryzen 5 3600 for gaming, but where did you read that 3600mhz is the sweet spot in memory for Ryzen Zen2?
