Hello,

I've recently build a new PC (after watching countless LTT videos), successfully booted and installed windows and was using it for a week. Then one day it randomly crashed while playing a game and when restarting, it gave me a blue screen with the error "PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA".

This repeats everytime i restart the pc. I tried going back to a restore point and it crashed again. Tried reseting PC and it got stuck for 7+ hours. Booted from a windows installation USB and cleared everything with diskpart, and retried. Still crashed. I ran memtest86, 4 passes no errors. Ran chkdsk /f /r, no errors. Cleared CMOS, nothing. Enabled UEFI, nothing. Also BIOS is latest version If it's not drivers and not my ram, then what else does that leave? When I reinstalled windows I was able to get to the setting up page, but crashed as soon as i created my profile and security questions. This does not happen with my SSD though, I can't even get to the configuration stage.

Below are my specs

Ryzen 7 3700X

Gigabyte RTX 2070 S

Vengeance RGB Pro 2x8GB DDR4 3200MHz

MSI MPG X570 Edge Wifi

Corsair RM850 (850W)

Also how do I get minidump files? The guide here assumes you have an OS.

Microsoft and MSI tech support were absolutely unhelpful, they kept giving me generic troubleshooting advise. I look forward to any other ideas

Thanks.

I just went through something similar. Turned out it was the CPU that was faulty. Win install crashed at Around 40-60%

My setup is also Ryzen, only a 5 3600 though. And the mobo was ROG Strix b450 gaming - F

replaced the mobo o at my third ram kit, and it still wasn’t fixed. Got a new CPU, and it has worked 100% since

That's interesting.. I did have a few kernel mode trap errors, and some "unhandled exceptions", but when I googled it was was stuff about drivers or ram. I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

Edit: Did you also have the same error(s)?

Most of the BSOD's pointed me to RAM too, which is why I had two different G.Skill Trident Z and ended up with Corsair Vengence LPX kit. I read that Ryzen was very RAM picky. But apparently, that was mostly the first gen.

"PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA" was a "frequent flyer". I also had "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL " a lot. Unhandles exception rings a bell, but can't remember that one exactly.

The blue screen I had during windows installs was so short however I never got to read what error caused the stop, sometimes it even just BSOD'ed without an error message attached.

And then suddenly Windows would install, BSOD once during driver install, and then run perfect for 2 weeks before starting the circus again. Crashing every 5 minutes, literately. Very frustrating.
