So I think I have wrong drivers installed on my laptop. The thing is my screen when I turn it on is fine but after a couple of seconds the colors fade and then ultimately leaves a black bar on the lower part of the screen, at first I thought it's and lcd problem but when it's on sleep mode it's fine I can see no cracks or whatnot so I thought it was a display driver problem so I went to amd site because it had a radeon but I couldn't find the driver I'm looking for. Turns out manufacturers name drivers diferent to amd so I just downloaded driver booster and update the drivers there and I think it downloaded the wrong drivers because something pops up saying my drivers and hardware doesn't match. And my touchpad drivers are gone from device manager and I can't do touchpad gestures. So I went to my manufacturers site and use the display drivers they have but It didn't fix anything. Any clue what should I do?

did you recently buy it, if so, take it back to the retailer to get it replaced.

if not, just download the touch pad drivers from the manufacturer, then use amd's auto detect to find which driver you need specifically. from personal experience, the monitor black bar thing doesn't sound like a driver issue.

Okay I'll do that. The black bar thing comes and goes. Sometimes it has it and sometimes it doesn't. I've had this for 3 years now so the warranty has expired already. When I turn it on the screen is fine and gradually fades to this

oh that's clearly a damaged lcd, either water or just wear from trauma.

Yeah that's what I thought. I didn't know because it was fine a couple of days ago

One thing with newer electronics is that they work until they don't. Sorta like a light bulb is either on or off. Something as small as a cable being loosened because you dropped it 3 cm can cause the whole machine to break down.

Before I check if it's the hardware is the issue I'm planning to format my laptop. Is there any discernable risk/downside/caveat on doing so?

Backup your data first, at least the stuff you need. Otherwise it's gone.

Barely got anything that I need in it. I transferred it because I can't use it for anything. I'm just worried that formatting might cause some problems

It shouldn't. Hopefully you still have your Windows install disk and all of that stuff?

Just be aware though, formattting isn't going to fix your screen. It looks like that screen is toast. You can look online, I'm sure you can get a replacement panel.

Really? Dang. I was hoping that it's fine because at time I could still see colors past the black bar. It only goes black after a couple of minutes. Where can I find my panel product number?
