Help! No that I am done with my friends PC building I need an upgrade. I have a very old computer that I hate to admit but it was a prebuilt but I have not had the budget to improve so I was thinking to get a new one for around 1k but I realized that I don't need to heavy of a load so I could just upgrade. At the moment I have a Lenovo ThinkCentre M81 (https://www.cnet.com/products/lenovo-thinkcentre-m81/) what would you change to improve so I can play stuff like overwatch and dauntless at like 40+ fps.

Edit:for under 300 $ can. Also possibly able to run vr (def not needed)

Some games barely run on 4th gen i5, this pc would run for around $80 as a refurbished, it's ridiculously under powered for titles coming out today. A ryzen 3 apu built for $300 will outperform this machine.

the headache of upgrading this, especially since it's a prebuilt from toshiba, it's not worth upgrading. I speak only for your sanity.

yeah but 9th gen i3 outperforms 7th gen i7. your platform is just too old. amd forced intel to innovate, meaning that everything 7th gen and older is more or less a dead platform in terms of worth to upgrade. and it's worse in your case cause it's a prebuilt.

LOL, That ain't true.

Even x58 xeons (which are available for around $20-30 on eBay) can crush your so called "9th gen i3 processors" in workstation tasks despite being a decade old.

4th gen Intel processors are completely fine. They even support the latest avx 2 instruction set.

And to answer your question, I'll recommend upgrading to a i7 2600. They go for around $50-70 in the used market. You'll have to update the bios to the latest available one in order for it to support the i7.

I'll recommend a rx570/580 for the GPU side of things. Rx570 goes for around $70 on eBay while the latter goes for around $100.

PSU looks like a standard atx power supply with standard 24pin power connector. So any standard size PSU can be used. I'll recommend a cx550 from corsair. They go for around $50.

I'll also recommend adding another 4gb stick of ram. 8gb of ram is kind of staple these days.

Also, yes this rig would be able to play those games at 60+ fps in 1080p.
