Fantasy names help

hey guys if u saw my other post about me wanting to start world building a fantacy world then u know what ima gonna be talking about

 

i need some help coming up with names for provinces and towns, and a name for the whole relm, is thier any trick to coming up with names,

 

thanks for any tips u can give me

 

Its a fantasy world in medevil times, a lot like tamrel for the elder scrolls games with elves and orks etc

I think you would have to post the era, location, theme of the game etc. To get names that would fit your world. You would want the names to be suitable for the game instead of throwing random names in there that don't make sense.

If you want to come up with names that all seem like they share a language, I would suggest creating a very simple and small conlang, otherwise known as a Constructed Language. This will  help you create multiple words for towns, cities etc etc whenever you need them and will also help with the feel of whatever it is you are doing. For example, you could then avoid Slavic sounding names and then some French sounding names. Unless, that is, what you would want. At that point, it all comes down to deciding syllable structure, phonology inventories (consonants and vowels) and how they interact (grammar etc etc).

 

Which is not as hard as it sounds, especially if you just want a name generator. lol

 

For example, with a basic inventory in my head, I came up with this;

zębac

ědza

blì

 

And managed to create a "theme", or rather, managed to make them look like they all came from a common language.

(I had Proto-Slavic on my brain but not thoroughly, just trying to give an example. lol)

 

Otherwise, if you just want some quick names, you can use a generator.

I just wanted to clarify that the above is not the only way. If you want names that sound like they came from TES, then you can still come up with an inventory of sounds that sound like the ones from TES.
