Should I buy a new GPU or a VR Headset?

Hi, i was going to buy a Oculus Rift S, but then I saw the RTX 2060S, and I'm thinking which one will be a better choice. I don't know if I should upgrade my pc or try a new experience in VR

My PC Specs:

i7 - 8700

GTX 1660 Ti

16GB 3200Mhz

MSI Z390 Tomahawk

650W Power Supply

you can run vr with your pc, but I'd advise against it with the splintered market, wait for HL alex to come out and see the state of the market then.

as for upgrading to the 2060 super, you'll see a much better performance bump, but there's been a bit of talk over new models being announced soon, so I also would wait since the 1660 ti a decent card for now

If you wanted to go with a gpu- a 5700 XT would be a better choice. Unless you really need ray tracing

Your gpu is adequate for vr though. It's fun to use,but you'll probably fade away from it after a few months

I have the Oculus Rift not the S but the updated one from right before the S came out so I have the touch controllers and everything, honestly I'm probably just going to sell mine, I don't use it at all as much as I thought I would. It's cool and the games are pretty fun but most people including myself can't play it for more than a couple hours and then get burned out(I had four other friends I played VR with and all of them have since sold theirs too). I've used it maybe a handful of times since I bought it, and for the most part I use it once a month then put it back in the box and use it again when I'm too bored to play or do anything else or I have friends over that want to try it. If you have never played VR before I would recommend if possible try testing it out first before deciding, maybe if you have a friend or a gaming cafe or something in your area that has one. A lot of people buy them and then find out they have motion sickness or it strains their eyes/gives them headaches. Personally I'd go for a GPU upgrade over a VR setup any day.

GPU upgrade only offers about 20% higher performance, so unless you want RTX it makes little sense, better wait for the next gen in a few months.

VR is cool, use my headset (Quest) quite a bit both standalone and tethered to PC.
