So ... recently got an rx 580 nitro+ and my psu started whinning horribly when in load, playing games ( didn't do so while under furmark for whatever reason ) ... anyway ... I have a ryzen 2600 + rx 580 + 5 ssd's / let's say 6 just in case ... about 4 fans, with an aorus pro b450 so let's also say some lights and whatever ( though i don't use them but still ... let's include those as well ) ... so now I'm getting a new PSU. But I'm a bit torn as to what to get since I know close to nothing about PSU's aside from estimate wattage, what certifications mean, the fact that seasonic and corsair make decent ones and that's about it - I don't know much about specific models ... These would be my options:

Seasonic Focus GX 650W ( 80+ Gold )

Corsair CX750 750W( 80+ Bronze )

Corsair RM650x 650W ( 80+ Gold - they specify 2018 in the name - not sure how that's relevant )

Corsair TX750M 750W ( 80+ Gold )

Modular, and quiet would be a bonus but not critical. I'm more interested in build quality and making sure it holds what I have. The rx 580 is relatively temporary ... at some point in the next few months I'll be changing it with probably a 2060 or something in that range from AMD, depending on what they have on offer at the time.

I admit - I'm leaning a bit towards the 750W models, as I'd much prefer to have plenty of headroom. But at the same time I'm fully aware that wattage is not everything. ( evident in the dozens of 850W PSU's selling for $50 which I'm sure are not exactly top of the class ).

So ... advice ? Opinion ?

By the way - I've selected those models because those are in stock right now, to be picked tomorrow. I'd rather get it over with fast. I couldn't find any EVGA in stock so no EVGA suggestions.

Where are you from ? Anyway, for the same price it's Corsair RMx, it's one of the quietest PSU in the market. But you don't need more than 550W for this or any other build if it's not i9 9900K + RTX2080 Ti and even then it just would be not that quiet under full load in stress tests.

Doesn't really matter - ordering from online is off the table due to delivery times. I need/want to pick it up the same day. I'll put in the order tonight, or tomorrow and go pick it up myself by Saturday at the latest. So from what I found in stock at several local shops ... those were my picks.

They had some other models ... so some suggestions of other models are welcomed but let's go from those models I suggested.

I don't know much about PSU's but as far as I know those models are fairly ok. I think ...

Well, just refer to the PSU tier list then and pick cheapest 550W+ unit from up-to tier B. But if you really want quietest PSU, go for Corsair RMx\RMi\AX(i)\HX(i), be quiet! Straight Power 11, Bitfenix Whisper, Enermax Revolution DF, Deepcool DQ-M (in no particular order, any of them).

I'd get NZXT E650 for 78€

... the recommendation is heavily dependant of where you reside.

Oh definitely ... NZXT basically doesn't exist in my country. Cases, plenty of models, though rarely in stock. PSU's ... not even store entries, you can take your mind off them actually being in stock. Same for EVGA - that's why I said that while I've heard they're good, they're very hard to find in stock here.

Because choosing between those models OP provided, Corsair RMx are better than Seasonic Focus GX, and Seasonic Focus FX isn't recommended to buy so Seasonic reputation isn't that flawless either.

Ok, I did not know that existed.

I see the Corsair RMx 550 being in tier a ... is it safe to assume that the one I mentioned is just as good - in terms of quality ? It's the same line RMx, same year 2018 ... just it has 650w instead of 550w ...

Again - I understand the "overkill" argument ... but I'd much rather just have extra headroom ... and I'm not looking for wattage suggestions ... I'm looking for quality suggestions really.

Yes, unless specified otherwise, models linked there aren't of any wattage, just all of them, entire lineups. If you're looking for 'overkill' quality then go for tier A and up.

Headroom does not help with anything. With single rail PSUs, it does however reduce safety. Also, if you can afford a higher wattage PSU, you should instead invest it in a higher end PSU.

:)

I seriously doubt safety is gonna be an issue for me. I'm running a single gpu with ~$120 PSU ... I think I'm safe in that regard. It's not like I'm buying some random, no-name PSU off the chinese market.

I don't really have the budget for a higher end PSU ... I have ~$120 ... these are the models that fit in that range. I picked what I thought was relatively ok.

Regardless ... I just placed the order for the RM650x ... it appears it's a fairly good quality PSU and it should do just fine for my needs.

what he meant regarding safety  in single rail PSU is that a high wattage psu have certain parameters such OCP set higher  in units with high wattage  that would be somehow dangerous  in units over 550W , but that is a very very low probability scenario but the point is there is no benefit gained for you with the higher wattage

anyway as others suggested i would prefer the RMx series
