Help me to decide please

Go to solution Solved by Midnitewolf,

AIO in the 240mm-360mm range mounted in the front of your case could drop your temps by about 15-20 degrees give or take.  AIO in top of case tends to give about as much cooling performance as Air, maybe a few degrees better.  Good Air cooler can drop your temps by 7-10 degrees.  7-10 degrees would probably give you about 1-2% better performance, 15-20 degree gets you maybe 3-4% more performance.  None are needed as the included cooler is just good enough to do the job.   The rest is up to you to decide if it is worth it to change out to a different cooler.

Hello, i recently bought a new Ryzen 5 3600 CPU and I don't plan to overclock it, the stock cooler runs very hot for me 55~60 C on idle even with good thermal paste.

I watched few videos on youtube guys saying that it is better to replace the stock cooler because it noisy and hot, so a friend gave me his old Antec A40-Pro cooler

with that cooler I get around 30~45 C.

I bought 6 pack RGB fans and the airflow in my case is great, my main purpose of upgrading the cooler is to match the cooler with the fans and to get better temps

i'm usualy not using my pc a lot, just gaming for about 2~5 hours once in a while

By how i'm going to use my pc so far is there any point of wasting money for a new cpu cooler or even liquid one?

please help me to decide

thanks in advance

is it safe to do that?

if you know what you're doing yes.

there are a lot of guides on the internet on how to undervolt cpu's.

but having a 30-45° idle isn't a problem.

my 2700x is running at <70° under load so it doesn't sound like a problem

well anything over 35°C idle is pretty high in my opinion and if you can change it, why not?

personally i disagree. i mean yea it can be lower but it doesn't affect any performance.

so i don't know why any change is needed.

the wraith cooler with 55°C idle is a problem i agree.

Your temps are fine. But if you want to get a few degrees cooler like 2-7 degrees you can get a better air cooler. Water coolers will work better but there are 2 issues with them. 1. The pump can and eventually will break. Could be many years of good use or less. 2. There is a small risk of getting your parts wet. But it's not a big risk.

Air coolers are just easier.

Now you do not have to get a new one. Your temps are fine. Low 30s at idle is ideal. Can be better but that's a good spot. Mine is low 30s. You DO NOT have to change any voltage. Your temps are good. Very good that you changed from the stock cooler. Stock ones SUCK!!!!

thanks for your reply, is there any better air cooler you can recommend?

i'm not going to overclock it just want a few degrees cooler like you said and to match it with the RGB fans

I tend to agree here.  Ryzen does have its performance scale with temps but 35-45 C idle which I am assuming would translate into maybe 65-75 C under a gaming load isn't going to have all the much effect on performance so a change isn't needed.   On the other hand, if the OP has some money burning a hole in his pocket and wants to spend maybe upwards of $100+ on a better cooler, it would hurt anything and would probably give him a few extra percentage points of performance in some circumstances.  Still $100+ is a lot to pay for 2% greater performance.

Well, it isn't needed. The one you have is fine. I can't guarantee much better performance. But there are some larger ones that should give better performance.

One's I can more then likely to work a bit better cost between $60-120 dollars (USD) for a better cooler.

One thing you can also try doing is if you have a 92 mm fan laying around, adding another fan to the cooler you already have could help. Otherwise just buy a different cooler. Don't buy another fan for the one you have. If you're going to spend money then just get a different cooler.

So just for basics, what you're mostly looking for is more surface area. AKA the larger it is the more it can dissipate heat. There are some other factors as well. That's the main one.

Now these ones are pretty large and I think I can guarantee they will be better. But if you want smaller ones, make sure they fit at least a 120mm fan and are large enough (just basic description to make it easier).

this is just my opinion. IDK how much a difference the BK024 will be. I am a fan of Be Quiet. All of those options in that selection are good options. But the BK024 in comparison to what you already are using I don't think will be much different. It is a little bit larger, the fan is lager and better. But it's only 4 heat pipes like the one you have. It's better but IDK if it's that much better then what you have. It might perform a lil bit better. It's sleeker.

Just in comparison, the Dark Rock 4 or the BK023 would show more of a difference. I just don't know if spending 65 dollars for the BK024 would make that much difference. I think it's better then what you have not I just am not sure by how much.
