How long can you spray a can of 400ml air duster for until it's finished

depends on the pressure and a few other factors, but it should last about 2 min continuous.

If you operate it constantly, the pressure will drop and it'll need to "rest" before the pressure goes back up again. Canned air dusters are only good for short bursts.

But it's been too long since I last used one, but I think a can can last maybe 4-5 complete mid-ATX case cleanings

Avoid canned air

Buy “data-vac” which is really just a fancy air blower. Much better all around (except portability).

Generally speaking, yes, but there are a couple of scenarios where I would beg to differ:

  1. In tight, confined spaces (think fins of a CPU/GPU heatsink) or highly compacted areas of dust around a socket, heatsink or port, canned air has always given me better results
  2. In an apartment setting, where blasting a data vac is noisy and messy and frowned upon

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

1. No, datavac is better, in my experience

2. If you can vacuum you can datavac

This isn't an Intel vs. AMD thing. We're talking about methods of moving air. Both are good at what they do, both have drawbacks. That's really all there is to it.

I've always used an air compressor with a length of aquarium air tubing on the nozzle. You can adjust the pressure as needed with the regulator. And,no there no water spraying out unless the air tank is full of water, highly unlikely. Works GREAT, never had a problem. And with an airbrush you can custom paint your case (or car) :)

depends on a lot of factors, including elevation, humidty, pressure of can.

i like to always have a large bottle of air around, but its $10 and it adds up, i have seen people insert a valve into an old can, but its not the same and the safety factor has been comprimised. Maybe if there is a mini air compressor, with a suitable small size hose, would work great if you use a lot of air.

Even better is the 18v Ryobi shop blower I got around a year or so ago. No cord to mess with, like with the DataVac, you can vary the speed so as not to blow components off the board, and it's no noisier than the DataVac.

You probably won't be able to finish it in one go.  As it emits air, it will become very cold and the pressure will drop until hardly anything is coming out.  You'll need to stop and let it warm up again before you can continue.

This is one of the reasons I prefer a powered air blower rather than cans of air.  It can operate continuously and it doesn't freeze your hand.  Additionally, I'd say the benefits include:

  • Superior tight space performance.  You can hold the blower any way you like.  With the cans, it'll spray coolant out if you tip it upside down.
  • Superior power.  It's simply higher pressure and higher volume, by a considerable degree.
  • Lower cost.  Upfront you will pay but in the long term you will save.

Only downside in my opinion is that it's loud, but if the noise they make is too much for your situation then you've got bigger problems than how to dust your PC.

PS, don't fall for the battery powered ones, I've heard they're super weak.  When I say powered, I mean plug in.  It's a serious device, like 500 W lol

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.
