I have the ISO and a USB storage device. How do I get the ISO to the USB device and it to be bootable? Not Dual booting.

No, I used software to make it a bootable device.

Did you try to pop up the Boot Device screen and select it? It's usually F8, F10, or F12.

Usually USB HDD

Okay, whenever I turn off my PC, I plug in the USB. Then it freezes at the 'Acer' screen where it gives me the options

1. f12 manual boot

2. del. setup

 

But if the USB is plugged in, nothing works. If I unplug it and then press del. it goes to setup/BIOS. And if I plug it in while i'm in the BIOS then it becomes unresponsive until I unplug the usb and then I can change settings.

 

What's wrong?

I'm tired so be easy with my here, but this is your poor old Pentium 4 with 512MB of RAM right? If so, then it might not support booting from a USB drive.

Yes it's that PC. But it has the option to boot from a USB.

Try "burning" the image to it with PowerISO. Finally moving off XP?

I think this old system would enjoy a less demanding OS.

Please tell me you're putting Xubuntu 12.04 LTS on it.

I don't know anything about Linux so I'm trying Ubuntu. What's the difference? Also, PowerISO requires a key.
