If you don't want to see the opening go to the next paragraph. Hi Guys, been looking at the newer apple products recently and have been swayed to at least try an iPhone out due to getting some IPAD pro's at work, which I quite liked the speed of. I have always been a die hard Android fan, but recently looking deeper into the grasp that google has on me I find myself wanting to completely change. To add some context, I found the "My Activity" tab. It labelled things such as every search, my location, what apps I used and when I opened them. This was all a bit strange to see and yes I know that this information will be use to provide you with services, but this seems to be deeply integrated into Google. The topping on the cake was that I am using a Huawei P20 Pro. The technology is amazing, but the software and stuff is of course still android and with the EMUI skin. With the recent troubles with Huawei I am eager to move away from them. I know there may not be any evidence of anything being done but it will always be in my mind.

So I ask, has anyone successfully switched from Android to iphone and not gone back. I ask this cause I currently have an iPhone 7 Plus to play around with and by what I see I will be having problems with WhatsApp specifically as I apparently cannot transfer the chats?!?! Now I do have alot of chats on android which are all backed up to the drive. I can't help but think its a shame to not bring them with me. It has historic chats with people close to me, partner, family, friends etc  which I would have to start all over again. Is it worth giving this up to get into the apple eco system? I wouldn't mind as much but once you log into the WhatsApp on another phone it locks you out on the original app. What would you do? Please No Android vs iPhone arguments as I don't want anything to get out of hand.

Thanks for your help.

i have about a year and a half ago, and i haven't looked back. i tried android a few times during that time but i hated it everytime.

also the 7 Plus is still a good phone. i have the regular 7 and it does fine so you should be good with the 7 Plus.

about Whatsapp, that entirely depends on you. there is no way that i know of to transfer the chats, and sadly Apple can't do anything about it either. Whatsapp is owned by Facebook so you'd have to complain about it to them if you want to see change there.

All my data is cloned to an encrypted microsd card. So there is literally no downtime if and when the phone is out of comission.

Apple also has no downtime, I've switched phones in a few minutes before. Its easy.

One tip: you can back up your WhatsApp chats, including to Google Drive.  I don't know how easily you can restore them on an iPhone after that point, but you'll at least have the archive available to look at.

Apart from that, moving from Android to iOS isn't all that difficult, especially if you rely heavily on streaming services and the cloud.  There's even an official Move to iOS app for Android if you need it (be sure to read what it does first).  Google services are still available if you don't want to ditch all of them.

I switched to Android and now I dont have to charge my headset or find a dongle to listen to music privately. Also Magisk + Xposed allows me to do way more things with my phone. As the OP specifically stated, please don't use this thread as a thinly-veiled attempt at fanning a platform war.

And everyone else beside him is clearly not using this thread as a thinly-veiled attempt at fanning a platform war.

The OP asked specifically about experiences switching from Android to an iPhone, and everyone else addressed that to varying degrees.  Some are more informative than others, but they're at least relevant.  Huilun deliberately ignored that and instead went on a diatribe trying to push the OP back to Android.

Look at it this way: if the OP was on fire and asking for help to put out the blaze, most of us were trying something. Huilun was suggesting that he get used to burning instead.

Your explanation is wrong firstly, because then you state iOS is better then Android. And secondary, Hullun was suggesting something to bring him back to Android, and it was relevant, look at it this way: You have a Lamborghini and want to switch to a Ferrari, everyone suggests you how you can move to a Ferrari: but someone suggests that you keep on with your Lamborghini and thats it.

This is explicitly false.  My responses to the OP and to you made no pronouncements as to which platform was better.  Please, quote the exact thing I said where I declared iOS was better.  You can't, because it doesn't exist.

No, Huilun's post was not relevant. The OP asked about experiences switching from Android to iOS, and "is it worth giving this up to get into the apple eco system?"  Huilun didn't answer that question at all; he just talked about switching to Android and brought up issues that the OP didn't talk about, like headphone jacks and cloning data to a microSD card.  Okay, that's fine for him, but what about the Google data collection and WhatsApp concerns the OP brought up?

You litteraly said "Android" is "Burning".

Also, OP asked was thoose bugs worth giving up for the apple ecosystem, and then Huilun came and gave him more issues about it, and why he shoudlnt. That is totally relevant.
