system registry file is missing or corrupt,no boot up

Hey friends.A neighbour of mine brought me his laptop,it can't boot up.

I sincerly hope hardware is okay.

What would be my first step to resolve this issue,except format and reinstall OS?

Maybe test memory and HDD,huh?

does the computer have more than 1 disk drive installed? (might be a stupid question not sure if lap top can have multiple drives)

maybe the boot drive in the BIOS ain't set to the disk that has windows on it?

What is his worst case?  What will he lose?

 

Try booting off a new drive and using his previous one (the one with the issues) as a data drive and see what you can salvage.

 

When registry is messed up like that, it's usually a lot more trouble to fix than just redo Windows or buy a new drive (depending if it's the drive failing that's causing it).

lol.laptop is totally fucked up.HD Sentinel reporting a lot of bad sectors and health of a HDD just 10%.I'm running now HD Tune test,besides CPU goes to 76 C under idle and it's some old i3-3120m.

Another issue is it's Toshiba Satellite and I know these ones have very bad design mostly hinges problem,so I just wrote him that there is no point of reparing this laptop,it's quite old.

I'll try to put a system OS on damaged HDD,but I doubt it will pass.
