I'm looking to add some RAM to my PC and wondering if the following will work...

This is what I have on my Asus Z170 Pro Gaming motherboard:

  • Corsair Dominator Platinum DHX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 2800MHz (Extreme-Performance)
  • The PC was custom built by Digital Storm in 2016 and they referred to the RAM as "(Extreme-Performance)" when they e-mailed me the order contents.  I'm not sure if Corsair refers to it that way.

I'm planning to add this:

  • Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32 GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200 (PC4-25600) C16 1.35V

Will it work?

it will work but the new ram will downclock it self automatically to match the speed of the old ram.  You may also run into other issues.  My suggestion is to just buy new ram and only use that rather then trying to mis-match it

If you want to mix both of the ram sets there is no point of getting faster ram cos it will be running at lower frequency, same as the one you have already installed.

Just out of curiosity, is the new RAM I'm getting substantially better than my old RAM?  Are there any areas where the old beats the new?

Ram which you planning to add is better than the one which you have already.
