First time overclocking RAM

use thaiphoon burner to get the details from your ram, export it as xml, import it in ryzen dram calculator, set the frequency you want to obtain (I would keep it to 3600) and click on calculate safe. it will give you a whole list of timings, sub timings, voltages etc

you need to take a note of all of those, go into bios and input all of them. hopefully everything will work. if not, manually push the dram voltage up gradually up to a max of 1.45 or 1.5. if it boots, stress test the ram using aida or something.

After almost 12 years I decided to build a new PC, and after watching Linus video (link below), I would like to overclock the RAM to at least 3600Mhz

I have seen software that helps to calculate some stuff, but I don't want to destroy anything due to a lack of knowledge.
In another video from Linus Tech Tips, they mentioned that it's fine to change the CL one below, so instead of CL16 I'll change it to 15...

 

Could you please tell me what should I change or send me a guide that will help me to understand better how to overclock?

 

What sequence should I have CL16-18-18-36 ? (I want to increase the RAM to 3600Mhz)

16-16-16-36 is the best. 14-14-14-32 is the the best but costs the most

I Use my knowledge as business owner and self taught technician aswell as an AI to help people. AI might be controversial but it actually works pretty well 90% of the time.

Try keep DOCP enabled, select 3600MHz and raise voltage. Max memory voltage I'd use is 1.5V (higher is not always better though, sometimes they just refuse to get better if not worse when voltage is higher), while SOC should be somewhere between 1.05V and 1.15V (usually recommends 1.1V, but different CPUs could be most capable at slightly different voltages). It should give you timings like 18-20-20-40 I think though I'm not sure whether your board scales timings past its rated frequency properly or just drops out entirely and give you like 24-26-26-46.

With RAM OC you can go one of to ways either increase frequency until stock timings need to be increased to continue increasing frequency.

Or you tighten the timings to decrease latency.

Both usually result in increase of voltage.

 

As far as your set up i would aim to go for higher frequency as you have stated you wanted to do. So with that being said this is what i suggest you try.

Set your XMP profile this will give you a baseline than try increasing just the memory frequency until your no longer stable. I would start with 3400Mhz and set DRAM voltage to 1.375v. 

If that boots and system is stable increase frequency until your no longer stable then your can up the DRAM voltage more and we can increase the timings a bit.

Post back with your results.

DOCP is another name for XMP

SOC is part of the Ryzen CPUs that includes everything but the CPU cores, so on 3900X it will be the memory controller, infinity fabric, cache etc. On APUs, SOC voltage also powers the iGPU.
