G Skill Ram - same model, different kit

Go to solution Solved by minibois,

The reason they would not suggest it is probably because they could be using Samsung DIMMs on one set and SK Hynix on another. That could in rare occasions give compatibility issues.

Usually RAM will just work, even in mismatched similar sets, but as the manufacturer GSkill takes the right precautions to tell you they do not recommend it.

With RAM I always suggest buying it from a place where you know you could (easily) return it, just in the small chance it does not properly work.

Science Studio recently did a video on mixing RAM sets which showed it generally worked fine..

Hey Guys,

I have 32 gb G Skill trident Z 3000mhz cl 14. I bought a year ago 16 gb and recently another 16gb kit.
I  was in the middle of solving another query with G Skill and they replied to me to they not suggest using 2 memory kits together even if they are the same model number.
They said that they test for compatibility only whole kits.

What are the possible repercussions of using them in such way? So far I did not notice any problems. Also did not try some very high OC.

If they are the same model (same productnumber, P/N) then its fine. (then it's the same memory), same as if you bought a 32gb kit.
