Rotate AMD's Wraith Spire's Fan

Omikor

I'm buying mATX motherboard and according to the reviews, the Wraith Spire cooler might have clearance issue because of the AMD logo. So I searched if is it possible to rotate the fan itself and I found this video:

Is this legal? Will it ruin the connection between the heatsink and the fan?

No, it's an illegal PC building technique, only known to a few people. AMD is aware of this and is actively pursuing anyone who's doing this. Tell me when you read the post so I can delete this after. /s

On a more serious note: no, it shouldn't affect your cooling performance. The shroud is screwed to the heat sink and the holes appear to be symmetrical. So you can rotate it any way you want. Contact between CPU and cooler is also not affected since the mounting mechanism isn't altered.

Its just fan, or even square shaped cooler. You should be able to rotate fan rather freely, or even whole thing.

Sidenote. Something being legal or illegal is usually when referred to laws of some country. These are very rarely useful when talking about anything PC related which isn't actual piracy, privacy or maybe some other p-starting thing. You may confuse that to term "legit" which means something being real or good. That would have been more suitable here.
