can i activate windows 10 with a windows 7 key?

because i saw that you can do it but mi not 100% sure

The answer is:

It depends.

It depends on which version of Win7 you currently have, and which version of Win10 you are going to.

If you have the cd key you should be good to do a fresh install of 10.

Just select windows 10 home 64 bit windows will diced if the key is professional or not.

Here the link to download windows 10  https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10.

Just make sure you have a usb stick 8Gb.

We did a straight upgrade at work from win7 pro systems to win10 pro and it picked the key up and ran with it. No issues (this was last week)

for me it works almost 8/10. where i work when people leave computers for recycling, i always take the windows license when its windows 7.

some dont work, maybe because they are specific to some computer parts. what i mean is that sometimes the license will have a brand on it like 'Dell' and it might lock the license to dell products. Im really not sure
